Renault Korea is experiencing a notable downturn in sales, driven by declining domestic demand and weaker export performance. The slowdown has raised concerns about the momentum of its recently introduced crossover model.
In April, the company reported total vehicle sales of just over 6,000 units, representing a significant drop compared to the same period last year. The decline was evident across both local and international markets, reflecting broader economic pressures and rising fuel costs that continue to affect consumer demand.
Domestic sales showed a moderate decrease, with just over 4,000 vehicles sold. While the newly launched Renault Filante emerged as the leading contributor in the local lineup, its performance has shown signs of weakening. After an initial boost following its launch in mid-March, monthly sales of the model fell sharply in April, raising questions about its ability to sustain long-term interest.
Another key model, the Renault Grand Koleos, followed as the second-largest contributor to domestic sales. The company had been relying on the Filante crossover to build on the success of the Grand Koleos and drive future growth.
The situation was more challenging in overseas markets, where exports declined at a much steeper rate. Global uncertainties—particularly those linked to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East—have disrupted trade conditions and dampened demand in key regions.
The combined impact of softer domestic interest and external market instability has put pressure on Renault Korea’s overall performance. As the company navigates these challenges, sustaining demand for its newer models and stabilizing export channels will be critical to reversing the current trend.
