A beautifully struck free kick by Son Heung-min has been voted the best goal in South Korean football for 2025, earning the national team captain another fan-selected honor for his highlight-reel finish.
The Korea Football Association announced that supporters chose Son’s curling right-footed effort from a friendly match against Bolivia as the standout goal of the year. The strike came during a 2–0 victory on Nov. 14, when Son bent the ball into the net from outside the left edge of the penalty area.
Fan voting took place online through the KFA’s “PlayKFA” platform over a 10-day period in December, attracting more than 1,400 participants. Son’s goal dominated the poll, receiving well over half of the total votes.
The award marks Son’s third consecutive Goal of the Year title, underscoring his continued influence and consistency for the national team. He previously won the honor in 2023 for a long-range effort against Singapore in World Cup qualifying, followed by another free kick in 2024 that decided an Asian Cup quarterfinal against Australia.
The match against Bolivia also earned recognition from fans, being selected as the KFA’s Match of the Year. The friendly, which featured an additional goal by forward Cho Gue-sung, topped the voting ahead of other high-profile fixtures, including South Korea’s win over the United States in a September exhibition match.
The KFA introduced annual fan voting for Goal of the Year and Match of the Year in 2022, giving supporters a direct role in celebrating the most memorable moments of each season. Son’s latest honor further cements his status as one of the most impactful and admired players in Korean football history.
