Bangladesh Earn Historic Home Test Victory Over Pakistan

Bangladesh national cricket team recorded a landmark achievement by securing their first-ever home Test victory against Pakistan national cricket team with a convincing 104-run win in Mirpur.

The dramatic result came on the final day of the opening Test at Shere Bangla National Stadium, where Bangladesh produced a dominant bowling performance to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.

Chasing a target of 268 runs, Pakistan appeared to be in a stable position early in their second innings before suffering a dramatic collapse. The visitors lost wickets rapidly during the final session and were eventually bowled out for 163.

Fast bowler Nahid Rana played a key role in the victory, claiming five wickets and helping dismantle Pakistan’s batting lineup under pressure. Support also came from fellow bowlers Taskin Ahmed and Taijul Islam, who contributed with crucial breakthroughs.

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto was instrumental throughout the match. He scored a century in the first innings and followed it up with another valuable contribution in the second innings, guiding his team into a strong position. Mominul Haque also delivered important runs for the hosts across both innings.

Pakistan’s brightest moment came through young opener Azan Awais, who marked his Test debut with an impressive century in the first innings. However, despite his effort and a resilient half-century from Abdullah Fazal in the second innings, the visitors were unable to avoid defeat.

Rain interruptions during the middle stages of the match created uncertainty around the result, but Bangladesh adopted an aggressive approach on the final day. The hosts declared their second innings before lunch in an attempt to force a result, a decision that ultimately paid off.

The victory continues Bangladesh’s recent success against Pakistan in Test cricket and marks their third consecutive Test win over the opposition, following a historic away series triumph in 2024.

With momentum now on their side, Bangladesh will head into the second and final Test in Sylhet aiming to complete another memorable series victory.
